Rick Mercer's rant on All-Season Tires

The Rick Mercer Report features Canada's funny guy, Rick Mercer. On one of last month's shows, Rick's Rant was about all-season tires.

The importance of proper winter tires is one of the core principles taught in our Motorsport Club of Ottawa winter driving school, so Rick Mercer was invited out to our track to shoot an episode there. Sunday was our first competitive snowcross event of the season, so while were running timed laps on one portion of the track Mercer's crew were filming his show on another portion.

The show is supposed to air next Tuesday Jan 20, 8pm on CBC.

I don't know if the BMW will make it onto the TV show, but we kicked butt in the snowcross competition! Because of the Mercer show being there, we had a huge turnout for this event with 51 entries, but because the TV crew were taking up a portion of the track it caused a lot of delays and we only got in four runs. I won the RWD category in which there were only 6 entries, beating Martin in his Nissan rally car on each of the 4 runs. That felt good.

But much more surprising, given the long straightaways of this particular track configuration, was that the old rwd BMW also beat all but 1 of the 27 FWD entries, and all but 5 of the 18 AWD entries. Ya baby!

Outstanding! But haven't you heard? Everyone knows that RWD is "bad in snow."

Well that sucks.

In the column in the middle of that page, under "CHOOSE A CATEGORY", select "RMR Season Six", then "Nov 5, 2008".

That should give you 8 clips from the Nov 5th show. Down in the bottom right, click to go to page 2 of 2, and select "Rick's Rant - Nov. 25, 2008".

I assume you mean Nov. 25 rather than Nov. 5. Either way, whatever video I select, an attractive female voice tells me "this content is currently unavailable."

I guess the CBC is scared of Rick Mercer being seen outside of Canada.

A lot of his rants are available on YouTube, but alas not the tire one.
