Nice! Do you have some good bike weather this time of year?

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1989 - E30 - M20 - Manual. Approximately 270,000 miles
2000 - E46 - M52TUB28 - Manual. Approximately 110,000 miles

Not really sad smiley
I had the license exam on heavy rain. Rode first 2 nights (yeah, seems easier without traffic) at 6-10 celsius.
Had the first long ride at 4-7 celsius and in 80-100 km/h sidewind. Pretty wild for a beginner..
I hope for better days next spring winking smiley

Romania -> Bucharest
Hungary -> Budapest

It's even near my nickname, on the left of my posts, haha.

Geography -> F-

:blinkey:

Old times were great, but I don't think they are coming back.
I had such pleasure working on my E30; now I have an E36 for 6 years and nothing breaks on it. I've replaced stuff just to invent something to work on (like Vanos upgrade). I go to the service shop even to change my oil...
The biggest work I did in at least 2 years was this morning, when I replaced... a bulb.

Glad to here the E30 is rock solid smileys with beer

You could always get another E30 to keep you from getting bored when not riding your new beemer
October 19, 2011 07:52AM
E30's are kind of... over around here.
I've not seen one in good shape in years.

I know Jaffar, for sure but I missed his real name Peter. Guess I wasn't tuned in when that was made known.

So, where the hell is Vlad!?

Dan, have you any idea where he is?, I miss our discussions :rally:

I love the new Bike, it's a GS 650, right?

Cheers, Rick

It's a F650GS twin.
Vlad is missing in action for several years. Maybe someone has his email ?

The last time I communicated with Vlad; he said he had lost interest in the forum and when we had to make that first new forum change, he didn't like the new format.
I guess he just lost interest in E30s and being part of the group. Kind of understandable since he didn't have an E30 or even a car after the Gestapo confiscated his E30 at the border when he tried to import one sad smiley

I always enjoyed discussions with Vlad because he seldom got upset and was so methodical in making his points of view and he always supported his arguements with empirical data :cool2:

At least, I have my handle and avatar to remember him by

Well; it wasn't really the Gestapo...just the customs guys.
Vlad went to Germany(I think) and bought a nice E30. When he tried to bring it into Romania, the customs guys wanted a king's ransom to import it.
He ended up just leaving it there...no doubt some border guard is driving it around sad smiley

I remember those times.

We had a law that stated you are not allowed to import a car older than 8 years (to "protect" our local car industry and dealers). Basically, if you wanted a good car and did not have a fortune to spend on a new one, you were screwed.

But many guys were still doing it somehow (with relations in the customs office), so Vlad hoped he'll manage to do it, too.

So he went to Germany and brought back a beauty, I think it was a 325e and he payed very very little on it. Other than a bit of rust on a rear fender, the car was pretty perfect !
Of course, since he did not have any "relations", the customs guys played him by the book and did not even let him take his second set of rims from the trunk.

I drove there with him ~ 1 year after, the car was still in the customs parking lot, sealed. I don't remember if the legal term was 1 or 2 years, but after that the car became state's property. For sure, today the car is not there any more, as since 2007 I drive through that customs point quite often.

What a shame. Thanks for the story Dan. What was his full name, I could look for him on the net maybe?

Customs suck.
I live near the Sanish border now, and i go there to shop for gaz and fill gasoline, its a lot cheaper due to taxes.
There are old buildings at the border, where the custom authorities used to be, I remember before UE open market there were huge queues to cross the border, and they often confiscated items or cars, just to keep there for a while and auction them latter. The cars, after sitting there for some time, were good for scrap only.
Is this stupid or what?! It is still done, but not at the border. If you import a car now, you have to go trough lots of paper work and tax paying to get a Portuguese plate.

Good bike Jaffar, you can ride to Budapest or wherever you like! winking smiley
Just let the good weather come...

Give my regards to Vlad, if you meet him.
It's kind of Gustavo Melo, bought new car, lost interest, moved on...
Just as life, people meet and go separate ways, some meet again latter, some not.

Hi Jaffar, long time indeed!

Heidi is beautiful, can you give more technical details on her?
:cool2:
September 11, 2012 03:33AM
1170cm3
81kW (110HP) at 7750rpm
120Nm at 6000rpm
compression ratio 12.0:1
234kg fully fueled

it has a driveshaft, so no maintenance necessary ( I hated the chain )

what can I say, it's a real beast, I WOT-ed it just once and it was pretty scarry.
it has lots of modern shit like integral ABS and ASC, electronic suspension adjustment etc. while you're standing, you can switch it from road to offroad or to extreme offroad. then you can just push a button while driving and change the suspension to soft, normal or hard/sport.

next summer I'm planning a trip in the Alps, if anyone is interested. I've been there by car in 2010 and absolutely loved it, lots of twisty roads, as someone said "travel porn", or better yet "drive porn".
