According to a local dealership's page, "BMW has announced that they will be bringing 4-cylinder diesel models to the US market in the next couple of years. They will have outstanding turbo performance, but with 60 MPGs! It may be the same engine currently launching in the European 3-series."

Is that 60mpg for the US gallon? If so that will be wonderful news for Canadians whose gallon is a little larger, giving us about 72mpg eye popping smiley

Yeah but remember that our miles (kilometres) eye rolling smileyare smaller than the US mile, so that still works out to specific consumption of around 4 litres/100 kms.

I've also heard that they're experimenting with 3-cylinder engines, and BMW-badged FWD cars.

I could definitely be happy with a diesel 1-series hatch/wagon or 3-series wagon as my next commuter car in a few years.

Two letters gents: SI. Makes communicating about figures a lot easier.

You are preaching to the converted with me! The USA is the only significant country that is not on the SI. :frown:

"Système International"

It's the system of measurement units used by the rest of the world -- the part of the world that doesn't play baseball in "The World Series".

As Cab said, here's the SI website.
