My brother has done this to some lamps he built for a friend of mine, he tells me it is a chemical (I just called him) and he is looking for the name. That could take years, just pee on the dam thing! I'm off to see a man about an avatar

I'm going to leave it until later tonight when I return from my annual sibling Christmas dinner. If nothing looks to have changed, I'll try the brass directly in the ammonia with a bunch of pennies and see how that works...I'm cheap

OMG...I forgot about it; I'm going out to check it right now........ ... ... ... D'oh! ... no change 
Ok so I'm trying plane B; put the brass dial right in the ammonia with a handful of pennies. Almost immediately I saw some changes on the edges of the dial. I'm going to leave it for 45 minutes or so(so as not to disturb what's on the tube) then check it. Will report results(if any) later

Almost perfect for a steampunk piece...just have to treat the bezel to a deshine
