This was a very tough two-day event.
It rained most of the first day. Very muddy, very slippery, and foggy later that night. The windows kept fogging up so Martin had the blower fan and heat on full blast trying to keep the windshield clear. That, combined with the usual gasoline fumes and exhaust fumes inside the car, not to mention the rough roads, soon had me feeling nauseous again. Not a fun day. The second day was much better with bright sunshine. Still it took a long time for the muddy roads to dry out. Martin drove the wheels off the car trying to make up for the time we'd lost the day before. We were making great progress, working our way back up the standings, until the car caught fire! We managed to put out the fire, and make repairs to get us back underway. Then we were very surprised when called up to the podium because we'd finished 3rd of the National 2WD entries. It's like banging your head on the wall, it feels great when you stop. Most of the time it actually is a huge adrenaline rush and fun. Sometimes though it's not fun. Either way, it always beats sitting in the office.
We were pretty slow on the first day, and got stuck for 3 minutes. There were several other 2WD cars much faster than us, but they all eventually either crashed or broke down. In this game you not only have to be fast, but you need to make it to the finish line as well. The BMW team who finished 1st in 2WD were legitimately faster than us all weekend. But we were very lucky to have finished 3rd. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 07/31/2013 11:27AM by Ferdinand. |
