Does anybody have the link for these bad boys, I'm actually looking for the new car; 1998 528i but my code reader does all the 87-00 Bmw cars so I can do our E30's too.

Thank You, Rick

Thanks Dave, would these apply to a 1998 528? I would think all bmw codes follow the same numbers....?

Oops, of course a 1998 should be using OBD-II, correct? Those codes are consistent among all cars made after 1995. So any OBD-II code reader should be able to give you both the code and the description. But in any case, I did find this:

http://www.e38.org/fault_codes.html

I have the predecessor to this OBD-II code reader and it does the job just fine (you need a laptop to run the software): http://www.scantool.net/obdlink-sx.html

Wow, Dave. That's a list! Thank you so much. I bought this one thinking I could do my 88 325is and the E39;

[www.ebay.com]

I have a few E36 friends too... It's on the way. I have a feeling it's my fault the CE lamp came on for the 5er; I fueled up with the motor running twice (I never do that!) eye rolling smiley

I went to autozone and they read the codes but they don't reset anything; P1421, P1423 and P0441, the last one is a bad fuel cap soooo. I red somewhere that codes beginning with P are maintenance items. With the code reader they also send a list of code info so that will be interesting...

Thanks Dave, Cheers and Peace

Chances are that the Motronix unit thinks there was a fuel rail pressure problem since you had the gas cap off when the engine was running.
I don't know if these things reset themselves like the E30s did or if you have to take it to the dealer for a reset.

The Peake tool he has bought will reset it.

Once this ce lamp gets kicked on the car does not reset itself until you reset with the code reader...
