engine mounting options - my head is spinning :confused:

So, I've been looking around at engine mounting options.
My car has 139K on it, I'm doing a huge service, I want to do this too.

I believe in doing upgrades during services where they make sense.

My car is an M42, so things are a bit different.
I don't mind *some* additional vibration in the cabin if the benefits are worth it.

I have read about using regular hard rubber motor mounts as an upgrade.
There are a myriad of trans mount options out there... does anyone have an opinion?

Daniels (ours) has a later model motor in his car. I've heard mixed reports on the poly mounts and bushings, yours is a street car right? I think the M3 mounts are larger rubber type, that's what I'd go for.

*cough* so about those engine mounts! I replaced mine this last summer and I can't for the life of me remember what I put in there. One of the reasons for "upgrading" to stiffer mounts is to reduce engine twisting, and engine movement overall. With a lower powered, and lighter engine, I'm not sure stiffer mounts would offer you much of anything. Slightly softer mounts reduce the amount of engine vibration that is translated to the frame of the car, and this is something any engine produces.

If I were you, I'd go with the OEM or OEM-like motor mounts.

Stiffer mounts will give you just a bit improved engine response and very slightly better handling - you need to be an expert to notice. What you'll notice is more engine sound into the cabin.

I thought E30 mounts could be replaced by stiffer E24 mounts, but I'm not sure.

yeah i have poly e28 mounts. my car is far from quiet and non-vibratory, though.

yeah and poly e28 mounts are the hardest you're gonna find in an E30, period.
the m42 mount is a specific design to reduce vibration... which makes me think stock with a mildly harder transmission mount might do the trick.
